A vintage first class ticket for the RMS Titanic from 1912, issued by White Star Line, for passenger Miss Margaret Brown, sailing from Southampton to New York.

Margaret “Molly” Brown (1867–1932) — Titanic Survivor

Margaret Brown, later famously known as “The Unsinkable Molly Brown,” was an American socialite, philanthropist, and activist who survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic in April 1912.

Born into a working-class Irish immigrant family in Missouri, Brown married mining engineer James J. Brown, whose success in Colorado silver mines brought the family great wealth. Despite her social status, Margaret never forgot her roots and became deeply involved in labor rights, women’s suffrage, and charitable causes.

While returning to the United States from Europe, Brown boarded the Titanic as a first-class passenger. On the night of the disaster, she helped other passengers into lifeboats. She was ultimately forced into Lifeboat No. 6. Once clear of the ship, Brown urged the crew to turn back and search for survivors—an act of courage and leadership that made her stand out among the passengers.

After her rescue aboard the RMS Carpathia, Brown organized relief efforts for survivors, raising money for those who had lost everything. Her bravery and compassion earned her international recognition, and her story later inspired books, films, and the Broadway musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Today, Margaret Brown is remembered not just for surviving the Titanic but for her resilience, leadership, and lifelong commitment to helping others.
