About World War 2
World War II was a monumental conflict that deeply shaped history. Viewed from the American perspective, it was a time of immense challenge and sacrifice. Beginning with the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the United States was thrust into a global struggle against Axis powers, including Nazi Germany, Italy, and Japan. Americans rallied behind their country, with millions enlisting in the armed forces and many more supporting the war effort on the home front through rationing, victory gardens, and industrial production geared toward military needs. The war witnessed iconic battles like D-Day and the Pacific island-hopping campaign, culminating in the defeat of the Axis powers in 1945. This pivotal conflict left an indelible mark on American society, fostering unity, technological innovation, and a renewed commitment to global peace and security through organizations like the United Nations.
